History

Our history dates back to 1933 when Mr. Freek Stoop started in Holland his horticultural business. In the '50s, a new commercial activity was added to the Dutch business as the company started trading various types of flower bulbs, including gladiolus. Over the years, this became the specialty of the company.

In 1968, a new firm called F. Stoop was created by Freek and his son Gerard Stoop, in order to devote themselves to the specialty acquired in the previous years. Three decades later, three Dutch associations of producers - Glaco, Everglad, and Horizon - acquired all of the shares. The associations of growers have great knowledge of gladiolus and are responsible for the development of successful varieties as Amsterdam, Cartago, Grand Prix, Chinon, Esta Bonita, the Glamini’s, and the GlamourGlads.

Since 2002, Mr. Kees van der Plas manages our firm, which has positioned its products worldwide under the brand Stoop Flowerbulbs Holland. The company focus on Business to Business (BtoB) sales of Dutch flower bulbs. We export 95% of our gladiolus bulb production, which is aimed at the professional flower grower worldwide. With 50% of the global market, we are the largest exporter of gladiolus bulbs internationally.

Since October 2022, Gert Sijm became the new director of Stoop Flowerbulbs B.V. Gert is also the CEO of VWS Import-Export of Flowerbulbs B.V. This means that sales go through VWS.
